Ross’s LUTs

Who doesn’t love a good LUT? I’ve been using LUTs to colour my videos for years, but now that you can load your own LUTs into LUMIX cameras to shoot JPEGs I thought it was about time I started designing my own. Check them out below…

I’d really appreciate a shout out on Instagram or YouTube if you end up using any of the LUTs I’ve created @rossandhisjpegs

‘Season’ LUTs

  • 'Summer'

My ‘Summer’ LUT was designed to be a good all-rounder with bold colours and warmth. It packs a punch with loads of contrast and tones reminiscent of Kodak Ultramax, perfect for capturing or replicating the feeling of summer!

The ‘Summer’ LUT looks good both under and overexposed and I like to use this LUT in-camera above a Standard Photo Style with the White Balance pushed slightly warm.

  • 'Spring'

My ‘Spring’ LUT was designed to capture the feeling of fresh spring morning with cool tones. In the highlights you’ll find a lovely pastel blue, the greens are pushed to the yellow side whereas the yellows are thrusted a more fiery orange.

In my opinion the ‘Spring’ LUT looks best when slightly overexposed and I like to use this LUT in-camera above a Natural Photo Style for a flatter look. Also try playing with the White Balance with this LUT. It cools down and heats up nicely just like Spring itself.

  • 'Autumn'

My ‘Autumn’ LUT produces images that look like how Autumn feels, you know the time of year where everything turns a certain shade of rust. With this LUT there is a slight green tint in the highlights but in the shadows it’s pure brown. I have also made the greens more emerald in colour which ends up making this LUT remind me of the colours of Fujicolor.

Be careful when exposing the ‘Autumn’ LUT. When over or underexposed it can look muddy but exposed correctly it’s gorgeous. I like to use this LUT in-camera above a Landscape Photo Style for good contrast. This LUT also looks great warmed up with a slight White Balance push.

  • 'Winter'

The ‘Winter’ LUT is a rad B&W look that is perfect for capturing any scenario. When designing this LUT I raised the black point and lowered the white to give it a slight filmic look, perfect for pairing with some film grain either in-camera or in post.

Underexpose this LUT for a darker, moodier B&W look or over expose for a softer look. When shooting with this LUT with my LUMIX cameras I have been setting the base Photo Style to Leica Monochrome to take advantage of this incredible look. Depending on the scene, it can also look great with other Monochrome picture profiles or photo styles. Have a play about for yourself.

When using these LUTs inside my LUMIX camera for JPEGs I set the Grain Effect [Low], Color Noise [Off], Sharpness [-2], Noise Reduction [-5], LUT Opacity [100%], Auto WB [A:1 G:1] but these settings are all personal taste. ‘Fujifake’ LUTs

  • 'Classic Chrome'

Replicate the look of Fujifilm’s much loved Film Simulation ‘Classic Chrome’ with this Fujifake LUT.

In my opinion ‘Classic Chrome’ is a great all-round look which looks best with a warmed up White Balance, lots of Contrast and Saturation.

Check out my Fujifilm Recipes for ideas on how to get a great look from ‘Classic Chrome’.

  • 'Astia'

Replicate the look of Fujifilm’s saturated but soft Film Simulation ‘Astia’ with this Fujifake LUT.

‘Astia’ is one of my absolute favourite Film Simulations. It’s got really lovely balance between contrast and saturation and to me the colours are pretty life-like with an almost pastel pallet - making ‘Astia’ great for portraits!

Check out my Fujifilm Recipes for ideas on how to get a great look from ‘Astia’.

  • 'Classic Neg'

Replicate the look of Fujifilm’s vintage Film Simulation ‘Classic Negative’ with this Fujifake LUT.

‘Classic Negative’ was originally created look like Fujicolor film stock so it has quite a film-like look to it. Expect magenta in the Highlights and green/blue in the Shadows and a moody overall tone to the image.

These LUTs get you close to the original Fujifilm Film Simulations but they are not 100% colour accurate.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

‘Lake’ LUTs

  • 'Ontario'

‘Ontario’ is inspired by the highly sought after look of Kodak film… The colours of this LUT are gorgeous and really shine on days with blue skies which are rare in Ireland.

This LUT is quite teal and orange focused but still has incredible colour balance and saturation throughout. I shoot with a Natural base Photo Style and add grain when shooting with this LUT (and every LUT) to increase the film-like feel!

  • 'Kitaura'

With this second look of the set, my aim was to design a LUT that recreates the feeling of film photography from Japan. This is ‘Kitaura’ and with its emerald green shadows and magenta highlights, I think it really captures the tones of classic negative Fujicolor film.

This LUT comes alive during sunrise or sunset and creates a whole other mood entirely from ‘Ontario’. I shoot with it  over a Standard Photo Style but this can be changed depending on your taste. If you want that Japanese film look then make sure to give this one a go.

  • 'Neagh'

When designing this look the aim was to highlight the natural colours of the country I love so much, Ireland! ‘Neagh’ is more restrained than the other two, with more true to life colours, less saturation but a great overall tone with a mint green push in the mids and highlights.

I love how this LUT looks over the punchy Vivid Photo Style and In my opinion this look works in every condition and scenario. If I had to choose one favourite LUT that I’ve created to date, this would be it!
